The calculator compares CO₂ emissions from a flexi-fuel car with that from a medium engine petrol car. The calculations for the medium engine petrol car includes an uplift for petrol engine vehicles driven in "real world" conditions and published in a June 2007 methodology paper published by DEFRA Passenger transport emissions factors: taking into account general maintenance and tyre pressure, eco-driving and air conditioning use. Fuel consumption can increase up to 20-25% when on full power. Sharing the fuel bill between the driver and passengers will reduce the cost per journey.
